There is one fight that boxing fans have been wanting to see for many years and that is match between Manny Pacquiao and Floyd Mayweather Jr. Rumbling in the fight world says this may actually go down in 2015.
Last Thursday boxing promoter Bob Arum told the press that he was “very optimistic” that a fight between these two boxing legends would go down in the first six months of 2015. It is rumored that HBO and Showtime have meet to discuss a deal to make this fight happen. This will be a pay-per-view match up for sure but both of these networks will have to figure a way to split the profits as well as pay the fighters.
When ask if Pacquiao would want this fight he said. “Of course, I want this fight…People have always been bothering me ‘When is this fight going to happen?’ I am ready to fight Floyd anytime.”
One of the reasons so much discussion is on this topic is the age of these two fighters. Pacquiao is 35 years old and Mayweather is 37. Both of these fighters are in the last leg of their career.
I think Pacquiao’s trainer Freddie Roach put it best when it comes to this fight. “Everyone would have liked to see the fight have happened earlier. But it’s still the biggest fight out there, and there is still a huge audience that wants to see it. I think Mayweather is a little shot, and we have better show now.”
Many wonder if Mayweather is even considering taking this fight. Mayweather has a goal to retire undefeated and break Rocky Marciano’s record of 49-0. He currently has 46 wins and a fight with Pacquiao would be a major risk to that record.
It appears Pacquiao wants this fight. The fans want this fight. The question is does Mayweather want this fight? Only time will tell.
